“#thatPower” è un brano di Will.i.am, quarto singolo estratto dall’album “#willpower”, il quarto della carriera del cantante americano già star delle classifiche di vendita negli ultimi mesi grazie a “Scream & Shout”, portata al successo anche grazie al featuring di Britney Spears. La canzone, rilasciata il 18 marzo negli Stati Uniti ed in Canada da Interscope Records, è stata scritta dallo stesso will.i.am, che si è avvalso della collaborazione di Justin Bieber, co-interprete nonché co-autore del pezzo insieme a William Adams e Damien Leroy, noto come Dj Ammo, che ne è anche il produttore insieme allo stesso Wll.i.am.
“#thatPower” è stata registrata il 20 febbraio quando Will.i.am e Bieber si trovavano a Londra per i Brit Awards, mentre il video, contenente “scenografie futuristiche”, come dichiarato dallo stesso Will.i.am, è stato registrato in Giappone e pubblicato il 19 aprile. Nonostante il notevole battage pubblicitario, però, né il singolo né l’album hanno ottenuto il successo sperato dall’autore, ed a poco è valsa anche la mossa di Will.i.am di rendere disponibile lo streaming dell’album in anteprima su You Tube. Nella prima settimana di vendita negli Stati Uniti, #thatPower” ha fatto registrare solo 108.000 copie digitali e nella classifica di Billboard Hot 100 #thatPower” è riuscito solo ad entrare nella top 20.
Anche la critica si è espressa in termini negativi, definendo il pezzo un remix più che un nuovo brano. Tiepida la risposta del pubblico italiano (solo diciottesima posizione della classifica di vendita), mentre buono è stato il riscontro ottenuto in Gran Bretagna, dove #thatPower” ha scalato le classifiche ottenendo la prima posizione in Scozia e la seconda in Inghilterra..
