A draw had been forecast, and a draw is the actual result: Poland-Russia ends 1-1 for the goals by Dzagoev, new top scorer of the Championship with three goals after the header at 37’, and by Pollish captain Blaszczykowski, author of a top goal with the left after a very speed counter-attack at 12’ of second half. After this goal both of the teams decide to content, so the verdict about qualification is delayed to the last matches planned for Saturday 16th. Russia will be qualified with a draw against Greece, Poland will have to beat Czech Republic.

Czech Republic is still alive: Bilek team defeats 2-1 Greece and is still in race for the qualification to quarter-finals. The match played in Wroclaw is decided in the first ten minutes: Czechs scores after 180” with Jiracek, served by Plasil, and after six minutes with Pilar who scores his second goal in Euro 2012 after a cross of Gebre Selassie. Greece reaction is generous but little dangerous for Czechs: Gekas reopens the match at the beginning of the second half (awful mistake of Cech) but Greek team is unable to create other opportunities to score. And the elimination is near.

Russia is ready: Advocaat’s team defeated 4-1 Czech Republic in the second match of Euro 2012 opening day. Alan Dzagoev is the protagonist of the match: the young midfielder of Cska Moscow scored two goals taking advantages of Czech team defensive carelessnesses. Shirokov and Pavlyuchenko the other scorers in a match which has been dominated by Russia except a few minutes in which Czech Republic, carried away by Rosicky, had tried to reopen the match. But Pilar’s gol has not been sufficient.

Greece: Chalkias; Torosidis, Papastathopoulos, A. Papadopoulos (38’ K. Papadopoulos), Holebas; Maniatis, Katsouranis, Karagounis; Ninis (46’ Salpingidis), Gekas (67’ Fortounis), Samaras. Team manager: F. Santos.

Referee: Velasco Carballo (Spaing)

Warning: Papastathopoulos, Holebas and Karagounis.

Sent off: Papastathopoulos at 44′ and Szczesny at 69’.

Notes: at 71’ Tyton cleared a penalty by Karagounis.

Poland does not manage to win Euro 2012 first match: one of the hosting nations has been recovered by Greece after having dominate first half. Lewandowski’s gol and the sending off of Papastathopoulos at the end of the first half seemed to have smooth the way to Polish team. However, Greek team manager Fernando Santos has been the real protagonist of the match: he has added Salpingidis at the beginning of the second half and Panathinaikos forward changed the match, scoring after six minutes and obtaining a penalty in the middle of second half: Polish goalkeeper Szczesny has been sent off, but Tyton, Poland reserve goalkeeper, has cleared the shot of Karagounis.
