Denmark and Portugal have to play a run-off, but both of them still risks elimination. Portugal wins 3-2 and hooks Denmark with three point: the last matchday will be deciding but after having seen his rivals Netherlands can be more optimistic. Sunday 17th Denmark will met Germany, Portugal will play against Netherlands. Three goals have been scored in the first half: Portugal advantage comes after a header of Pepe at 24’, Postiga doubles at 36’ after an assist of Nani while Denmark shortens with an other header of Bendtner at 41’ on suggestion of Krohn-Dehli. Two incredible mistakes of Cristiano Ronaldo characterize second half, the latter few minutes before the 2-2 by Bendtner. But at 87’ Varela, in from three minutes, scores third Portoguese gol with the right, and Group B is now a brain-teaser.

Seven months after the long duel for the qualifying Group H first place, the fate has faced Denmark with Portugal: but at the time overtaking Norway was quite easy, while this time both of teams will have to look for a real performance to eliminate two very strong teams like the Netherlands and Germany, which are also the Euro-favourites together with Spain. It gathers that the contest planned for Wednesday, June 13th at 8.45 p.m. will almost be a run-off: losing would mean giving up a great chance advancing to the next round. The tradition is on the Portuguese side: Lusitanian have won seven matches out of the twelve played against Denmark but six of them has been recorded in the first seven head to head between 1996 and 2000. From that year Denmark won three matches out of five: the clear indication of a football movement lacking in world-beaters but very reliable collective-speaking. So Portugal wins only on October 8th 2010, 3-1: Nani scored twice in the first leg of the double match during qualifying to Euro 2012: one year later, in the return match, Krohn-Dehli’s and Bendtner’s goals led Denmark not only to win 2-1 but also to overcome Portugal at the top of the qualifying group table. The two teams have met only one time during Euro or a World Cup final stage: in Euro 1996 the match played in Liverpool on June 9th ended 1-1. Goals were scored by Brian Laudrup and Sa Pinto: at the end of the group stage Portugal got quarter-finals while Denmark was eliminated.
